The Best Wedding & Engagement Photo Locations in Vancouver: 20 Beautiful Places to Consider

Couple kissing beside a pond under weeping willows

Vancouver makes choosing a location for your wedding or engagement photos almost unfair.

You can start the day surrounded by towering evergreens, walk a few minutes and find yourself beside the ocean, then finish with mountains glowing in the distance or the city lights coming alive around you.

But the best photo location in Vancouver isn't necessarily the most famous one.

The right location depends on the kind of photographs you want, how comfortable you are in front of a camera, the time of day, the season, how much walking you're willing to do, and whether you want your photos to feel elegant, adventurous, romantic, urban, or completely natural.

As a Vancouver photographer, I also look at something couples don't always think about:

the light.

A beautiful location with harsh midday sunlight can be much less flattering than a simple location photographed at the right time.

So instead of giving you a list of places that simply look good on Google, this guide breaks down some of the best wedding and engagement photo locations in Vancouver, what makes each one special, and the type of couple it may suit best.

Let's find your spot.

Planning Your Vancouver Wedding or Engagement Session?

1. Stanley Park

If you're looking for a location that gives you a little bit of everything, Stanley Park is hard to beat.

You can find towering trees, seawall views, ocean, beaches, bridges, open spaces and beautiful greenery without leaving one of Vancouver's most recognizable parks.

For engagement sessions, I especially love locations where couples can walk, talk and interact naturally rather than standing in one spot posing for photograph after photograph.

Stanley Park gives you plenty of opportunities for that.

You can take a relaxed walk together, stop for portraits when the light is beautiful, and keep moving when the background changes.

That creates photographs that feel more like your relationship and less like a photo session.

Best for: Couples who want variety and natural, romantic photographs.

Photo style: Natural, romantic, outdoorsy and timeless.

Good to know: Stanley Park is currently experiencing construction-related impacts, including possible delays and limited parking in some areas, so build extra time into your schedule.

2. Queen Elizabeth Park

Queen Elizabeth Park is one of those Vancouver locations where you can get several different looks without travelling across the city.

The gardens provide beautiful greenery and structured landscapes, while the higher elevation gives you views toward the city and North Shore mountains.

The City of Vancouver describes the park as a popular backdrop for wedding photos, and at approximately 125 metres above sea level, it is Vancouver's highest point.

For couples who want something a little more elegant and polished, this is a fantastic choice.

It's particularly beautiful when the gardens are looking their best, but there are photographic opportunities throughout the year.

Best for: Romantic, elegant engagement sessions and wedding portraits.

Photo style: Garden, editorial, romantic and timeless.

3. VanDusen Botanical Garden

If flowers, greenery and peaceful garden paths are more your style, VanDusen Botanical Garden deserves a place near the top of your list.

The garden offers a completely different feeling from Vancouver's beaches and urban locations.

Instead of dramatic city scenery, your photographs can feel intimate and surrounded by nature.

And there's an important practical detail for couples considering it: VanDusen has specific arrangements for wedding, proposal, engagement and portrait photography, with photography packages available during garden hours.

Best for: Couples who love gardens, flowers and romantic surroundings.

Photo style: Soft, natural, elegant and romantic.

4. Kitsilano Beach

Kitsilano Beach is a classic Vancouver choice for couples who want water, mountains and an open-air feeling.

On a clear day, the North Shore mountains create a beautiful background, while the shoreline gives you room for more relaxed photographs.

The beach can also give you a completely different look depending on the time of day.

Late afternoon and evening light can turn the waterfront into something much softer and more romantic.

Best for: Couples who love the ocean and want relaxed Vancouver scenery.

Photo style: Casual, romantic, coastal and natural.

5. Jericho Beach

Jericho has a quieter, more laid-back feeling than some of Vancouver's busier waterfront locations.

You get beach, grass, trees, open sky and mountain views — which gives us plenty to work with.

It's particularly nice for couples who don't want their engagement session to feel overly formal.

You can walk along the waterfront, sit together, talk, laugh and simply enjoy being together.

Those in-between moments can become some of the strongest photographs of the session.

Best for: Relaxed couples who prefer candid photographs.

Photo style: Natural, coastal and documentary-inspired.

6. Spanish Banks

Spanish Banks is one of my favourite types of Vancouver location because it gives you space.

The beach feels expansive, and on a clear day the combination of water, sand, sky and mountains creates a beautiful backdrop.

It's also a wonderful place for sunset sessions.

Instead of trying to create a complicated photograph, sometimes all you need is two people walking together with beautiful light behind them.

That's the kind of simplicity that photographs beautifully.

Best for: Sunset lovers and couples who want spacious, dramatic scenery.

Photo style: Romantic, cinematic and coastal.

Good to know: If you're considering Spanish Banks for an actual wedding ceremony rather than simply photographs, Vancouver has designated wedding sites and specific permit requirements.

7. English Bay

English Bay gives you that classic Vancouver waterfront feeling without requiring a trip outside the city.

It's particularly useful for couples staying downtown or planning a wedding nearby.

The beach, seawall and surrounding city environment allow us to mix wide scenic photographs with closer portraits.

And when the sun begins to drop, the light can become incredibly flattering.

Best for: Downtown couples and classic Vancouver waterfront portraits.

Photo style: Urban, coastal and romantic.

8. Sunset Beach

Despite the name, Sunset Beach isn't only about sunsets.

Its location near downtown makes it convenient, while the waterfront provides a simple backdrop for couples who want something relaxed.

It's also one of the designated Vancouver park wedding locations, although wedding ceremonies and photography are different things when it comes to permits and rules.

For a simple engagement session, the appeal is the combination of accessibility and scenery.

Best for: Couples looking for a convenient downtown waterfront location.

Photo style: Casual, coastal and modern.

9. Granville Island

Not every couple wants trees and beaches.

Some couples want colour, architecture, movement and personality.

That's where Granville Island comes in.

The market, colourful buildings, walkways, boats and surrounding waterfront give your photographs a completely different character.

It's especially fun if you want your engagement session to feel like a date rather than a traditional photoshoot.

Grab a coffee. Walk around. Explore.

I'll photograph what happens along the way.

Best for: Playful couples who want an urban session with personality.

Photo style: Colourful, candid, urban and fun.

10. Gastown

If your idea of a romantic Vancouver session involves historic buildings, brick streets and an urban atmosphere, Gastown is worth considering.

The architecture gives your photographs a more editorial feeling than a typical park session.

It's also a great option for couples who aren't particularly comfortable with traditional posing.

Walking through the streets, stopping for a few portraits and interacting naturally can create photographs that feel effortless.

Best for: Couples who love architecture and city life.

Photo style: Editorial, urban, cinematic and timeless.

11. Coal Harbour

For couples who want Vancouver's skyline and mountains, Coal Harbour can be a beautiful choice.

The waterfront gives you a clean, modern environment, while the city creates a sophisticated backdrop.

This can work particularly well if your wedding is taking place at a downtown hotel or venue and you want your engagement photographs to feel connected to the city.

Best for: Modern and downtown couples.

Photo style: Clean, sophisticated, urban and romantic.

12. Vanier Park

Vanier Park gives you a combination that is very Vancouver:

water + mountains + city + open space.

You can photograph couples against the skyline, near the waterfront or in the surrounding park areas.

It's a particularly good option when you want the photographs to feel spacious without travelling far from central Vancouver.

Best for: Couples who want a mixture of nature and city scenery.

Photo style: Airy, natural and modern.

13. Lighthouse Park

Now we're getting into the Pacific Northwest feeling.

Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver is surrounded by towering trees, rocky shoreline and dramatic natural scenery.

If you love the idea of your photographs feeling adventurous and connected to the landscape, this is an excellent choice.

It's not the location I'd choose if you want to spend the entire session standing beside your car, though.

Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to move.

Best for: Adventurous couples who love forests and rugged scenery.

Photo style: Moody, cinematic, natural and Pacific Northwest-inspired.

14. Whytecliff Park

Whytecliff Park offers something a little more dramatic.

Rocky shoreline, ocean views and surrounding forest can create photographs that feel much more secluded and adventurous than a typical city session.

It's especially beautiful for couples who want their photographs to feel like an escape from the city.

Best for: Adventurous couples and intimate sessions.

Photo style: Dramatic, coastal, cinematic and natural.

15. Lynn Canyon

If beaches aren't your thing, head into the forest.

Lynn Canyon offers lush greenery, towering trees and the kind of Pacific Northwest environment that makes Vancouver so special.

The forest canopy can also provide more naturally diffused light than an exposed beach on a bright day.

There is more walking and uneven terrain here, so footwear matters.

Best for: Nature-loving and adventurous couples.

Photo style: Intimate, earthy, adventurous and romantic.

16. UBC & Pacific Spirit Regional Park

UBC and the surrounding Pacific Spirit area give you a huge variety of environments.

You can find forest, open spaces, architecture and quieter paths without feeling like you're in the middle of downtown Vancouver.

It's particularly useful for couples who want nature without a major road trip.

Best for: Couples who want forest and greenery but still want to stay close to the city.

Photo style: Natural, quiet, romantic and understated.

17. Bowen Island

Okay — technically we're leaving Vancouver.

But I'm including Bowen Island because if you're willing to make a little adventure out of your engagement session, it can be incredibly rewarding.

The island gives you a slower pace and a completely different atmosphere from the city.

Instead of rushing from one location to another, you can make the session feel like a little getaway.

And sometimes that's exactly what makes photographs special.

Best for: Couples who want an adventure and something less predictable.

Photo style: Natural, intimate, adventurous and relaxed.

18. White Rock

For couples in the Fraser Valley or South of Vancouver, you don't necessarily need to drive into downtown for beautiful engagement photographs.

White Rock offers waterfront scenery, the pier, shoreline and a relaxed coastal atmosphere.

It's also a great reminder that the best location is often the one that fits your story, rather than the one that appears most often on Instagram.

Best for: South Surrey and Fraser Valley couples.

Photo style: Coastal, relaxed and romantic.

19. Whistler

If Vancouver is beautiful, Whistler takes the scenery to another level.

Mountains, lakes, forests and changing seasons make it an incredible location for couples who want their photographs to feel like an adventure.

It can work especially well for couples planning a destination wedding, elopement or engagement session in the mountains.

Best for: Adventurous couples and mountain lovers.

Photo style: Epic, romantic, adventurous and cinematic.

20. A Vancouver Location That Feels Like You

And here's my favourite option.

Your location doesn't have to be famous.

Maybe it's the beach where you go on Sunday mornings.

Maybe it's the neighbourhood where you had your first apartment together.

Maybe it's a coffee shop you visit every weekend.

Maybe it's the park where you walk your dog.

Maybe it's the place where someone finally asked, "Do you want to go out with me?"

Those places may not appear on a list of Vancouver's most Instagrammed photography locations.

But they can mean more.

And when you're looking back at your photographs years from now, that meaning matters.

Before You Choose a Location

Before booking your engagement or wedding photography location, ask yourself a few simple questions:

What kind of photographs do we want?

Do you imagine yourselves surrounded by trees?

On the beach?

Walking through the city?

Looking at mountains?

Or somewhere that feels connected to your everyday life?

How comfortable are we with walking?

Some locations are easy and accessible.

Others involve trails, stairs, rocks or longer walks.

Choose something that you'll actually enjoy.

What time of day will we photograph?

This can be just as important as the location itself.

A beautiful beach in harsh midday sunlight can look completely different from that same beach during golden hour.

Do we want privacy?

Some Vancouver locations are extremely popular.

If you're nervous about being photographed around lots of people, a quieter location may be a much better fit.

Do we need to check photography or venue rules?

This is important.

Rules can differ between parks, gardens, venues and organized wedding ceremonies.

For example, the City of Vancouver states that ordinary wedding photos in parks don't require a permit, while setups for wedding photos may require a photography permit.

And certain venues have their own photography restrictions. Bloedel Conservatory, for example, does not allow staged photography during public hours and has specific booking requirements.

Always check the current rules before planning your session.

The Best Time of Day for Vancouver Engagement Photos

If I could give couples one piece of advice, it would be this:

Don't choose your location without thinking about the light.

Golden hour can give you soft, warm and flattering light.

Overcast days can be beautiful too — especially around the ocean and in the forest, where the clouds create naturally soft light.

Midday can work, but open beaches and exposed areas can become much harsher.

The same location can therefore produce completely different photographs depending on when we arrive.

That's why when couples ask me:

"What's the best location?"

I often want to know:

"What time are you planning to photograph?"

What to Bring to Your Vancouver Engagement Session

You don't need to bring a suitcase.

Keep it simple.

Consider:

Comfortable shoes if we'll be walking

A second outfit if you'd like variety

A jacket or layer for cooler evenings

Water

Touch-up items

An umbrella if the forecast looks questionable

Any small personal item that has meaning to you

And don't worry if the weather isn't perfect.

Some of my favourite photographs can happen when Vancouver gives us clouds, wind or a little bit of drama.

Final Thoughts

There isn't one perfect wedding or engagement photo location in Vancouver.

There is only the location that feels right for you.

Some couples belong on the beach.

Some belong in the forest.

Some want mountains.

Some want downtown streets.

And some couples don't care about the location at all — they just want photographs that feel like them.

That's what matters most.

Choose somewhere you can relax, move, laugh and be yourselves.

I'll take care of the photographs.
